Michael Owen-Worth a gamble?

From being the leading goal scorer, season after season at Liverpool to being out of favour and out of contract at a Newcastle United football club which finds itself in the Coca-Cola Championship,Michael Owen, awaits for a premiership club to offer him a route back into the Barclays' Premier League.

When Michael Owen moved to Real Madrid from Liverpool for £8m,no one in the sports fraternity would have thought that the carrier of the 29-year old would have taken such a dramatic turn.Trophyless with Real Madrid scoring 13 goals,Michael Owen was used more as a substitute. In 2005-2006 season,he returned to the premierleague for £16m and joined Newcastle United where he partnered Alan Shearar up front. With injuries forcing him out of action for the next 18 months,he returned in some style, cemoing the team's top goal scorer in 2007-2008 season. But now the things are very different, injury after injury and Michael Owen's agent is after several premiership club to offer the former Liverpool and Real Madrid player a contract.

Michael Owen would be a big name player where ever he goes and which ever club he plays for in the near future.Michael Owen joined Newcastle United and was offered a four-year contract worth £110,000-a-week.His wage has put several clubs off and has made various clubs think twice before signing the English International. Some fear of Micheal Owen of being injured once again after they have signed him.It would be a gamble buy is there any club in the premiership, who is willing to take that gamble and offer Owen to play once again in the English top division?

Though he might have lost a yard of pace but he still is a potential goal scorer having a great eye for goal.As they say,the form is temporary but the class is permanent,so why not give Owen another chance to play in the premierleague. He is not the same wonderkid 10-years back, who would score in almost every game but is still a very good player.Reports linked Owen to Aston Villa, with Martin O'Neill keen to make him play at Villa Park but hours later Villa's official website dismissed the rumours circulating in the football world.Accroding to Daily Mirror,Owen is in talks with Liverpool's Mersyside rivals,Everton, over a possible deal that would make the 29-year old undergo a pay cut of £70,000 a week and have a salary of £50,000-a-week.With Everton already having injury plaged strikers like Yakubu,James Vaughan and Louis Saha, would David Moyes take that gamble?

Having achieved what he has achieved at a very young age in both, club and international football,Owen deserves another chance to establish himself in world football. How many of us remember Michael Owen scoring that magic goal against Argentina in World Cup 1998 or scoring two against Arsenal to win the FA Cup for Liverpool or that hat-trick against West Ham United when playing for Newcastle,he has to be given another chance.

Owen still,is determined to make it to the English Football team and feature for England in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He wants to prove everyone wrong who think that Owen's footballing carrier is over and make a mark once again on World football. But as for now,he awaits for a call from a premiership club, likely to be Everton to offer him another chance to play and prove his worth...

Would Everton offer him a contract and take a gamble still remains to be seen but Michael Owen fans would love to see their "Midget Gem" in action in the top flight of of English football once again.

The sole reason why Pakistan should play International cricket

What we witnessed yesterday against New Zealand, was an epic.A brilliant performance with the ball followed by a decent batting performance inspired Pakistan to a T20 victory over New Zealand.
How can we forget those times of Imran Khan, unplayable reverse swing by Wasim and Waqar,a hard hitting Javed Miandad,Inzamam-ul-Haq(his name is enough, right from him running after a fan to his hitting, him tearing apart several bowling attacks),well,I can go on...Just tell me,won't we miss Pakistan.
Well,I'm an India and love India but that doesn't stop me from writing about what world cricket would miss.
Pakistan is a great cricketing nation, having a great history and love of people who do absolutely anything to watch a game being play....how can you can Pakistan from world cricket then.I mean how can you even think about stopping them from participating in any of the international tournaments. What's happening in Pakistan,it's not the cricketer's fault. There are a million people in Pakistan who love to play cricket, why to deny them the joy of playing the game?
IPL banned Pakistani players from participating,is this helping world cricket to any extent?
Don't we love to see Shahid Afridi hit bowlers out of the park, don't we love to see Shoaib Akhtar charging in and knocking batsman over, don't we love to see Younus Khan play those wonderful drives, don't we love to see Mohommad Yousuf hit the last ball for six to get his century....I mean these things are so important for word cricket.
No team wants to go to Pakistan and play, agreed, but why ban Pakistan from world cricket?
They are a country in which the talent resides and a country which has a potential to be a cricketing giant once again.
Getting back to what happened yesterday,Pakistan proved to the world that they are no mugs with the bat,the bowl or even in the field. They did what they had to and they did it to perfection.A brilliant blowing performance by Umar Gul followed by a great catch by Shahid Afridi, who did not play his natural game,he was looking for ones and twos and the moment he got set,he took on the bowlers. They now stand a great chance of going through to the semi finals.
Even if you go and ask the international cricketers, even they would tell you that they want to see Pakistan playing, both test and one day cricket.
It's going to be amazing to have the thrill of India-Pakistan rivalries, again.Don't we remember Wasim Akram teaching or giving tips to Irfan Pathan when Irfan started his International carrier in Australia,2004.Who gave a damn to nation then.It was a legendary bowler teaching tricks of reverse swing to a young, enthusiastic bowler who had a potential to be one of the best in the country.
Pakistan as contributed so much to world cricket, they gotta be playing every form of the game,if not in there own country at least abroad.
I'm an Indian but when it comes to cricket or to any sport for that matter,I want to give a green light to Pakistan or any country that's been denied the right of playing "gentleman's game."

Real Madrid-Insane?

It's in there history to pay record fee for players, first Kaka and then Cristiano Ronaldo,Real Madrid have splashed out almost £159m this summer, already.
Years back,Real Madrid had devoluped a habit of signing a star every season.First Figo, then,Zidane, followed by Ronaldo and then Beckham. But this is a new era, already two of the biggest names in world football signed, the Galacticos look to invest more this time around. With Barcelona having bagged a treble last seaon, the giants from the Bernabeu are spending absolutely crazy.Almost £80m for Ronaldo and £59m for Kaka, you gotta ask yourself, are these players worth that much?
I mean they could've brought Newcastle United and still had £50m odd left.
Don't you think Real Madrid are insane?
Faliures lead people to crazy things they say...but this is a height!
Manchester City payed £12m for Gareth Barry.Isn't that a good deal,it is,it sure is.
If the fee goes up this high, then, wouldn't the gap between the so called "bigger clubs" and the clubs thich are not that financially equipt increase.....it would, wouldn't it?
Forget about all that......coming back to Real Madrid.....it's not what they think. They might have all of the greatest players but still might not win anything. Not everyone is like a Ronaldinho, who can completely trasform the club.
But it's Real Madrid and money does talk, plus,it was time for Ronaldo to go,had he not left this season,he would have left the next season. So,it's a pretty nice deal for United but if Real Madrid think that they can buy the title, then,it's not going to happen.
Tell me one thing,is Ronaldo worth £80m?.......I mean is any player worth £80m?....Mind you,I'm a through and through Manchester United fan but Real Madrid gotta be insane to pay that much for Ronaldo.Okay,he's brialliant and is probably one of the best player in the world but what Real Madrid are paying for him, isn't it over the bar?
As far as Kaka is concerned,£59m also seems too much but then considering that Manchester City were ready to pay £108m for him,it feels okay.
At this moment,I'm sad,sad to see Ronaldo leave, though,he wasn't my favourite player but he is a great player.....
Thanks a lot Ron....Thanks for giving your 6 years to Manchester United....you came when a hero(David Beckham) left and like him,you are also leaving like a hero....Have a great footballing carrier at Real Madrid.

Premiership Mid week Review-27th January-28th January

Manchester United strenghed their hold on the premierleague tile as they went 2 points clear at the top.

The red devils dismantled the Championship winners,West Brom with a 5-0 demolition at the Hawthorns to go 3 points clear of Liverpool on Tuesday who were to play their game, away to Wigan,on Wednesday. An inspirational performance from the so called "playing legend",Ryan Giggs which saw the 34 year old bag the man of the match award,Cristiano Ronaldo brace and a goal each for Nemanja Vidic,Carlos Tevez and Demitar Berbatov remineded the Premiership, who the Champions actually are.

Meanwhile,Liverpool who had their game away to Wigan at the JJB stadium on Wedenesday, drew due to a late penalty by Mido. The Equadorian is on loan from Middlesbrough till the end of the season. The result means Liverpool slip to third in the table behined Manchester Unired and Chelsea.Yossi Benayoun put Liverpool infront on 41 minutes with Fernando Torres hitting the bar later. As the first half progressed Wigan started to play well and Steve Bruce's team were rewarded with Mido scoring late on in the 83rd minute with a penalty to level the scores after Koumas was fouled by Lucas.Draw denied the Reds a chance to go on equal points with Manchester United but it means Wigan go 7th in the premiership table.

Chelsea hosted Middlesbrough on Wedeneday.A spirited Middlesbrough performance, who according to Ray Wilkins caused Chelsea problems, wasn't enough to prevent Chelsea from grabbing a victory and improving their quest for the premierleague title.Salomon Kalou gave Chelsea the lead in the 58 minute.Only to double his account of the game by scoring late on in the 81 minute. The vicory means the Blues go 2nd in the table from 4th,a position that they had slippend to before they played their game on Wednesday, behined Manchester United,Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Robin van Persie's stunning injury-time strike gave Arsenal a point they barely deserved at Everton. Van Persie's brilliant left-foot volley rescued Arsenal - but not before another resilient Everton performance dented their faltering title hopes.
Tim Cahill headed Everton in front with his 100th career goal from Leighton Baines' cross after 61 minutes.

Debutant Craig Bellamy scored against his former club as Manchester City swept aside Newcastle at Eastlands. City took the lead on 17 minutes when Shaun Wright-Phillips fired past Steve Harper from 10 yards, courtesy of two sublime touches from Robinho. Bellamy doubled the lead on 77 minutes when his neat shot on the turn from the edge of the box left Harper stranded. But Newcastle hit back on 80 minutes when David Edgar robbed Wayne Bridge to square for Andy Carroll to score.

Goals from David Di Michele and Carlton Cole helped West Ham cruise past a very disappointing Hull City at Upton Park. Di Michele scored an early opener, scooping in at the back post after Matt Duke kept out Cole's low shot. Hull's debutant keeper was in fine form and saved Mark Noble's penalty after Cole was felled by Sam Ricketts. Debutant Jimmy Bullard and Daniel Cousin had Hull's best chances, but West Ham dominated and Cole scored the second after Duke kept out Di Michele.

Other Results:
Blackburn 2-2 Bolton

Nottingham Forest v/s Derby County

Friday 23rd January 2009
It was a Midlands Derby that finished with both the teams sharing the honours.
A fiery Midlands Derby played at Pride Park saw Derby County taking the lead only to be pegged back by Nottingham Forest on 64 minutes. The reply is to take place on 4th february in Nottingham at the City Ground.
Both Derby County and Nottingham Forest came out in their respective last games with decent performances. But inspite of a good performance at Old Trafford in the League Cup semi final second leg,the Derby County manager,Nigel Clough, made four changes to his side that played Manchester United in their last game on Tuesday.Giles Barnes scorer of 2 goals started for Derby and so did Robbie Savage who played in the central midfield.
Whereas,Nottingham Forest who won their last game beating Plymouth made only one change with Joiel Lynch playing in the starting eleven.

Rob Hulse put Derby infront on 35 minutes when he slotted in a cross from Paul Connolly which came to him from a Paul Green dummy.Another dummy but this time on 64 minutes from Nathon Tyson(Nottingham) resulted in a goal as the former West Brom man,Robert Earnshaw put the ball in the back of the net levelling the score. The Forest keeper Paul Smith was on form producing two wonderful saves off Rob Hulse and Luke Varney in the final five minutes.
Derby boss Nigel Clough: "It was a cracking cup tie, but I'm frustrated we didn't defend our lead better.
"Kris Commons had a great chance when he came on and the two headers - we could have walked away with a 2-1 win.
"But he (Forest keeper Paul Smith) made two very good saves at the end. We would rather replay than be out."
Nottingham Forest assistant manager David Kelly: "We put in a super performance in the second half and we thoroughly deserved a draw," said Kelly.
"Earnie has done great of late, he's a real 'fox in the box' at the moment. To come back to your old club, you always want to do well.
"He and (Nathan) Tyson worked really hard, in defence as well as attack."
The result means Derby have to travel to the City Ground,Nottingham to take on Forest.
